We have all heard the saying “Hindsight is a perfect science.” Unfortunately, by the time we hear it we have inevitably already cocked something up!

The secret to making the most of hindsight is to steal the learnings from other peoples mistakes and use them as guidelines (not law) for ourselves. Talk to old people. Find out what they would do differently – I absolutely guarantee you that you’ll find some real gems.

Below is a list of 10 things that Guy Kawasaki would have done differently. They were part of an address to High School graduates in Palo Alto. Guy was 40 at the time.

#10: Live off your parents for as long as possible

#9: Pursue joy, not happiness

#8: Challenge the known and embrace the unknown

#7: Learn to speak a foreign language, play a musical instrament, and play non-contact sports

#6: Always continue to learn

#5: Learn to like yourself or change yourself until you can like yourself

#4: Don’t get married too soon

#3: Play to win and win to play

#2: Obey the absolutes

#1: Enjoy your family and friends before they’re gone

I have been practicing having hindsight in the now. You know me 3, I have a theory that makes sense to me, but will not fly with most others (I’m fine with that). You see for me I don’t believe time is linear. We have abilities way beyond our general perception. I do think when we apply ourselves to a task or open ourselves up to our abilities that ‘hindsight’ will present itself id needed.
